    January Reading Challenge: Modern Romance

    January 31, 2016 /

Like a cold beer from a newly discovered microbrewery, I had such high hopes for Aziz Ansari’s co-authored book about romance in the modern age. And, like a new-to-me IPA, I kept diving into the book hoping it would grow on me, but for the most part, I experienced, or tasted, disappointment. I will continue trying IPAs, but sadly, I don’t think I will read Modern Romance again, and not just because surely by now there are more updated data on the facets of dating Ansari and sociologist Eric Klinenberg covered. While I expected a few humorous moments to be sprinkled throughout the text, those moments never seemed to be…

RC 2016 – Halfway Through January

    January 15, 2016 /

Good morning! We are now about halfway through January and although I haven’t finished either of my Reading Challenge titles yet, I am happy to report that I am at least halfway through them. How are you doing in your own challenge or challenges? Much to my dismay, Modern Romance has been like a mediocre date you are drawn to, but once you are on that date you remember why it’s mediocre: regardless of the shiny restaurant and familiar person, the pieces are just not fitting quite right and the things that should impress you come up short. On another note, I feel like The Goldfinch is surgically attached to my hands and…

    RC 2016 – Year & January Intro

    January 2, 2016 /

I am excited to start my 2016 Reading Challenge – I’ll consider it my inaugural Reading Challenge, as my 2015 Challenge (apart from Summer’s) only lasted half the year. During the inaugural Challenge, I learned how to use Goodreads to track the books I want to read, that I have read, and those I’m reading, as well as connect with other readers and groups interested in challenging themselves throughout the year. I’m still discovering publishers, authors, and other bloggers who provide beautiful insight, tips, and previews related to the wonderful world of reading, writing, and liberal arts – allowing me to make educated, spontaneous, and exciting decisions about my own…

    UPDATE #2: Summer Reading “Challenge”

    July 19, 2015 /

This is going to be barely an update – more of a declaration of my excitement for the books I just purchased. I am still plugging away at Anna Karenina, but I’ve decided to take on the challenge of reading more than one book at once, especially since I’m moving at a snail’s pace towards my reading goal(s). Here’s an image of the books I have recently (today) added to my library: Besides the obvious reason – because I need/want to read them – here is why I chose these specific titles: On My Reading Challenge List(s) East of Eden – John Steinbeck [Penguin 80] Candide – Francois Voltaire [Penguin 80]…
