Ten Books on my Fall TBR 2019

This week’s theme for Top Ten Tuesday (created by The Broke and the Bookish and carried on by That Artsy Reader Girl) is Ten Books On My Fall 2019 TBR. I enjoyed creating a TBR list for fall last year, so to carry on this tradition and get my current reading situation under control (it feels chaotic because I’ve started/am currently reading about six books), I’ve selected some books from my own bookshelves to read from September 23rd – December 21st. Ten of them are physical copies, and because I couldn’t help myself, I’m throwing in one bonus book that is sitting in my ebook library. 

These are the 10 [Physical] Books on my Fall 2019 TBR:

The Italian by Ann Radcliffe

This will be a reread, and I’m especially excited for it because I recently reread Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen and am very much in the mood for a Gothic classic (and to be reminded of themes and tropes that inspired Jane Austen’s parody of the genre). I placed this on last year’s fall TBR and wasn’t able to finish it in time, so I’m obviously hoping for a better result this year. 

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

This is one of those books that I wanted to read before watching the movie, and then once the hype died down and time went on I wasn’t feeling so enthusiastic about it. But I’m very much in the mood for a psychological thriller so on the list it goes. 

The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins

I read Wilkie Collins’ The Moonstone over the course of last fall and early winter (I finished it in January of this year), and although it was slow-going I quite enjoyed it. The Woman in White is considered to be one of the first in the mystery and sensation genres, so I think this time of year is perfect to see what it’s all about.

Dracula by Bram Stoker

Does this make my fall TBR basic or cliche? So be it! I have never read this classic novel, but know it’s generally not what people expect (based on modern adaptations) – I hope I enjoy it nonetheless.

The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Just another classic I want to read. And this is a perfectly spooky, horror-inspiring cover.

Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman

I’ve seen the movie, I’ve even read The Rules of Magic; I’m crossing all my fingers that this will be the year I finally read the source material for both.

Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James

I’ve had this book for a little while, and was reminded of its existence on my shelves while I was reorganizing my books recently. I am fond of Pride and Prejudice continuations so I have high hopes for this. 

The Dark Angel by Meredith Ann Pierce

The only book from a series on my list, and one I picked up on a whim from a bookstore last year. I know little about it other than it’s high fantasy, so I’m excited to dive in.

The Silver Witch by Paula Brackston

A recent library book sale acquisition that I picked up because I can always use more books about witches on my bookshelves.

The Moon-Spinners by Mary Stewart

A find from that very same library book sale, I chose this one because I’m a sucker for old editions and ethereal-sounding titles.

A Spell of Murder by Kennedy Kerr

This is an e-ARC for the book that will be available on October 3rd, so I have started reading it. Basically, I’m anticipating that finishing and reviewing A Spell of Murder so soon after this TBR announcement will give me even more motivation to check the rest of these books off my list this season.
