NaNoWriMo 2019 | Conclusion
Happy December, friends! And to everyone who celebrated the end of November today by laying low, going out with friends, or continuing to plug away on your work in progress – congratulations on getting to the end of National Novel Writing Month 2019!

Last year, I reached 50,000 words by the end of November for the first time, and it felt exceptional. I had brought my story idea to life – it was real. This year, things went a bit differently in terms of word count, but my enthusiasm towards my story is still high.
Over the past 30 days, I wrote a total of 25,487 words. I’m actually quite impressed that I reached the halfway point – there were many days of no writing and little writing and you know, self-doubt. But those discouraging moments, nights, and writing sessions where little writing was done are behind me, and I have over 25,000 more words, dozens of new scenes, deeper character back stories, and a better understanding of the work still needing to be done.
That work includes editing. Lots and lots of editing. I really should have done a way more thorough job of editing before going into NaNoWriMo this year, but I don’t have time to dwell on that anymore – and I hope that whatever setbacks or difficulties you faced during National Novel Writing Month can be discarded; shed the weight and keep improving and adding to your work in progress. Or maybe shedding the weight means scrapping (not deleting!) and starting fresh.
