My Goodreads To Read Shelf: 1,000 Books
With the addition of The Pirate Queen: Queen Elizabeth I, Her Pirate Adventurers, and the Dawn of Empire by Susan Ronald, this morning my Goodreads To Read shelf reached 1,000 titles. Why does this feel so momentous to me? Besides the enormity of the number, I guess it’s amazing to me that there are [over] 1,000 books that I have taken an interest in; roughly 900 or so authors whose words and stories I want to read.

Kelsey’s Bookshelf: To Read

When I started seriously using Goodreads I apparently really wanted to read David Sedaris (I haven’t yet). There’s also quite a few non-fiction books here, which I typically do not read, as well as historical fiction which my love for has grown tremendously in the past year or so. I also just switched out Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with the Screenplay that was recently published, because I have in fact read the former, and accidentally added it to my TBR shelf instead of the latter. While most of these books come as no surprise to me, there are three in my top 100 that particularly stand out:
- Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America | This was made into an outside-of-television book?! Excellent.
- Salt: A World History | I think I’d rather remember who or what convinced me to add this than read it.
- Lords of Finance: The Bankers Who Broke the World | This won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize and is about the events leading to the Great Depression – which I was reminded of through the Google search I just did – so while the title did surprise me as I read through the above list, I now remember why I added it.
It would be remiss of me to leave out a mention of my biggest TBR enabler: Bookperk. This email subscription hands down contributes to the majority of the books I add on Goodreads, and if you think you can handle it, I recommend signing your bookish soul away to this HarperCollins service (it comes with additional perks besides just book recommendations). I also have Thrice Read, One Bookish Girl, Cafe Book Bean, Bibliophile Book Club, Reading Every Night, The Girl Who Reads Too Much, Secret Library, Lauren’s Page Turners, Reading Through Infinity, Fiction Fan, and so many other superb book bloggers posting book reviews, summaries, and book recommendations to thank for my mountainous TBR pile. We’re all in this together, right?

My TBR list is long too (but not quite as long as yours!). Some I never seem to get to, because new ones come along and nab my attention. Apparently I’m easily swayed. ?

I’m currently sitting at roughly 1200 books but I will go through and cull it soon- things that once interested me no longer do, and I’m trying to get it down to a reasonable number that could be read in 10 years with other books, rather than only those.

Shallow Reflections
I adore David Sedaris so you are in for a treat when/if you read his books. I also love his books on Audible – Me Talk Pretty Some Day is hysterical. You have an impressive list, Kelsey. I have read a few of them and give them a thumbs up! Nice to meet a fellow Mainer!

Goodreads says I have 501 to read. I’ve only started listing things as I finish them. The piles in my hose are bigger, ha!
