There’s Something About Year Four
April 2019 marks the fourth year of theressomethingaboutkm. As expected, there have been ups and downs in both my blogging life and my life outside the confines of the internet. I’ve briefly reflected on some of these things below.
In the spring of 2015, I had been working as a copywriter for a couple of months, and had just moved into an apartment with my boyfriend. After a grim and dreary winter, I was feeling hopeful and enthusiastic about life, and decided to devote more time to blogging. I switched from Weebly – which had burned me more times than I care to remember – to WordPress, and started getting serious about my small space on the internet.
In the spring of 2016, still working and living in the same places, I took the plunge and bought a domain – this very domain. I felt excited about my Reading Challenge, and was quite confident in the things I wrote about books I did and did not enjoy.
In the spring of 2017, with no home or work changes, I went through heartbreak and sadness that mirrored what I went through in the winter before the spring of 2015. Even so, I made the insane decision (for myself at the time) to participate in the A to Z Challenge during May – AKA posting every day throughout the entire month. I did not succeed, but had fun with the posts I did manage to publish. I also published a Twelve Details for Twelve Months post, to celebrate my one year-old domain.
In the spring of 2018, I started feeling like a blogger. It’s one of the few things I am sure of in my life; recently I’ve been having a tough go at it, but thankfully I have love, reading, and writing to get through most of it. One day at a time.
Now in the spring of 2019, I look back on four (plus a little more) years of blogging, and wish I had more of that 2015 optimism, 2016 freshness, 2017 grit, and less 2018 insecurity. But I also look back and see how much more I interact with other bloggers now, how my social media and writing skills have improved (thanks to blogging AND my full-time job), and how I’ve successfully managed to make reading a big part of my life again. It’s never really stopped feeling surreal, this hobby and connections with others who have made it their hobby (or life’s work); I’m glad to be a part of it.
And I’m glad you’re here, reader – whether you’ve been here since the beginning or are just joining me in this fourth year. As much as this blog is for me, your likes, comments, and messages make this all the more enjoyable.
So stay tuned for some throwback posts, my first giveaway, and all of my regular content as I celebrate my blogiversary in April.
