The Coffee Book Tag

Since drinking coffee is currently out of the question (it’s 7:00PM and I would like to sleep tonight), I will instead celebrate my favorite hot drink with a book tag!

I came across this tag on The Wordy Habitat, and it was created a few years ago by BangadyBangz. Here are the prompts and my answers:

1. Black: Name a series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans.

I’m going to say the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. It’s tough in that it’s epic high fantasy with a unique “magic” system, so it’s definitely not for everyone. But based on my experience and others, if you get into it, you’re into it. Plus, loving the world and story are basically required in order to get through the second book.

2. Peppermint mocha: Name a book that gets more popular during the winter or a festive time of year.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.

3. Hot chocolate: What is your favorite children’s book?

Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary.

4. Double shot of espresso: Name a book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid. Synopsis:

In this deeply suspenseful and irresistibly unnerving debut novel, a man and his girlfriend are on their way to a secluded farm. When the two take an unexpected detour, she is left stranded in a deserted high school, wondering if there is any escape at all. What follows is a twisted unraveling that will haunt you long after the last page is turned.

5. Starbucks: Name a book you see everywhere.

I’ve been seeing N.K. Jemisin’s new book The City We Became all over the place – I need to get a copy for myself! Synopsis:

Every city has a soul. Some are as ancient as myths, and others are as new and destructive as children. New York City? She’s got five.

But every city also has a dark side. A roiling, ancient evil stirs beneath the earth, threatening to destroy the city and her five protectors unless they can come together and stop it once and for all.

6. That hipster coffee shop: Give a book by an indie author a shout out.

Heavenward by Olga Gibbs. Synopsis:

With the power to end the world, would you protect humanity when it broke you or would you take revenge?

Meet Ariel: a quiet, unnoticeable girl with an incredible gift…

Ariel never had an easy or pleasant life, but the arrival of three gorgeous strangers meant her measured life is turned upside down, as she discovers that angels exist.
Now against her will, she’s drawn into an ancient celestial conflict where her powers will decide the fate of humanity.

Deceived, threatened, hunted and now on the run, who can she trust?

7. Oops! I accidentally got decaf: Name a book you were expecting more from.

Ugh, how unfortunate. 😉 The Hood of Aalayfa by Sylvia Xamanka.

8. The perfect blend: Name a book or series that was both bitter and sweet but ultimately satisfying.

My most recently finished read: What It Means When A Man Falls From The Sky by Lesley Nneka Arimah.

Do any of these books spark your interest, or have you already read any of them? Let’s chat in the comments.

I’m tagging SusanLovesBooks, Mani’s Book Corner, and Witty and Sarcastic Book Club – thank you for the recent ‘likes’!
