Quarter 1 Wrap-Up | 2020 Reading Challenge
When I laid out my plan for my 2020 Reading Challenge, I decided to forgo my monthly wrap-ups, and instead write quarterly wrap-ups to discuss my reading progress and any general Reading Challenge updates. The end of March is now here, which means it’s time to look back on the first quarter of 2020.
Right away I will say that my reading habits have been a bit dismal over the past three months. I created a TBR in January, and stuck with that same list for February and March (with some slight variations). I did do some reading outside of the set TBRs, but those additions still did not bring me to my Quarter 1 goal of 18-24 books. After being laid off in February and now with the global pandemic requiring isolation, I have plenty of time to read – but I just haven’t had the momentum. In the past couple of weeks I have felt that momentum amp up slightly, so I am hopeful to be out of this reading slump by the end of April. But more on my future outlook in a moment.
First, the list of books I finished over the past three months. I have linked any discussion or book review post if you are interested in reading them, and all books are physical copies from my own shelves, unless otherwise noted:

So I finished the amount of books in three months that I wished to have finished in one. It’s not a great realization, but I won’t get anywhere dwelling on that, I can only try to continue getting out of this slump. Amidst all the not-reading of novels, I did read quite a bit of poetry and frequently returned to Mary Oliver’s Upstream – you can find some of my favorite poems and passages on Instagram.
While I still want to finish the books on my initial TBR, I think I need to create a new one for April – perhaps a fresh list will give my reading a boost. I will likely reduce the number of books on the TBR, too – but all of those details will be in a designated post.

I did pretty well towards my challenges for the first couple of months, but March has been dismal. Just when I feel getting lost in a book would be a wonderful escape from reality, I seem to have lost the ability! Hope we both get out of our slumps in April – I suppose we’ll get used to this new world sooner or later…
