Down the TBR Hole #6

Down the TBR Hole is a blogging meme created by Lost in a Story. You can see my previous post here, and continue reading for my latest attempt at decreasing the number of books on my too-long TBR list.

This is how it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order by [ascending] date added.
  • Take the first 5 books (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous)
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

In September I kept just six out of the ten books – which made that round my most successful yet! Let’s see how I fare this month…

Down the TBR Hole #5

When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris

I think I might have every one of David Sedaris’ books on my TBR. And since I have already kept so many of them via this series, I don’t mind taking a couple off [for now].

Verdict: Discard

Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris

Read explanation above.

Verdict: Discard

S*it My Dad Says by Justin Halpern

I’m not really sure what drove me to add this to my TBR in the first place, but the synopsis is not helping it make a case for itself in my current eyes. So…

Verdict: Discard

Squirrel Seeks ChipmunK: A Modest Bestiary by David Sedaris

Again, following suit with the other Sedaris books mentioned in this post.

Verdict: Discard

Barrel Fever by David Sedaris

And again.

Verdict: Discard

Down the TBR Hole #6

Earth (The Book): A Visitor’s Guide to the Human Race by Stacy Schiff

This book has okay reviews, and since I’m a fan of Jon Stewart (and since the book comes in at under 300 pages), I’m still interested in checking it out.

Verdict: Keep

The Eyre Affair (Thursday Next #1) by Jasper Fforde

The synopsis of this book sounds so overwhelming. I might have been interested in it back in 2015, but that is no longer the case.

Verdict: Discard

Seriously…I’m Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres

I haven’t been super interested in celebrity biographies/autobiographies for a while now – is it a phase? is it forever? who knows – so I’m taking this one off my list.

Verdict: Discard

All My Friends are Dead by Avery Monsen

This book might have been added to remind myself to purchase it, because it’s not a typical adult book and I think it would be a fun addition to my shelves. I’d still like to read it and buy a copy, so it stays.

Verdict: Keep

Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne truss

Of course I’m still interested in reading this!

Verdict: Keep

Forget September, October is now the month to beat: I have removed seven books from my TBR! Come back next month as I try to knock a few more books off the list.
