From My Bookshelf: Mansfield, Beasts, Charlotte
We all know the timeless adage “don’t judge a book by its cover.” As a book lover, though, I practice that in just about every area of my life except books. The following three picks From My Bookshelf are proof of that: Mansfield Park, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (screenplay), and Charlotte’s Web and Other Illustrated Classics. The charm of their covers isn’t the only reason I purchased them, but it certainly makes me treasure them more.

Eligible and Modern Retellings of Jane Austen
Book reviewer Ron Charles from The Washington Post simply describes my reaction to hearing about The Austen Project, a series of Jane Austen novels retold by modern bestselling authors, in his review of Eligible, the modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice: [Mrs. Bennett has] the right idea when she says, “I’ve always far preferred a good book.” We already have that book. We’ve had it for 200 years. And it’s worth rereading.

Shorter, Condensed, Succinct, Abridged

February Reading Challenge: Anna Karenina
My desire to get through this Leo Tolstoy creation is red hot; unfortunately my success with doing so is as non-existent as a flame in an outdoor fireplace buried under four feet of snow. I have tried reading this novel over and over and over again, and while I did get further this month than I have during previous attempts, I still could not get through the seven hundred and fifty four pages of this particular edition.
