This post is dedicated to the books I’ve checked out from the library to read throughout the month of September. I’ve sort of developed the habit of checking out library books almost exclusively at the beginning of a new month, so I’m fully embracing that habit and featuring the most recent titles I’ve checked out.

Now that summer is over and I’m ready to launch into cozy fall reading, I’m going back to the library. I didn’t check out any more books in August because I knew I wouldn’t get to them, and I needed to pay my overdue fines. So now that I’m all paid up and am feeling refreshed by the new season, it’s time to overfill my short-term TBR with a few library books.

Nyxia Unleashed by Scott Reintgen

This is the follow up to Nyxia, which I read and loved in August (I also reviewed it here). I don’t have much else to say other than I can’t wait to rejoin the characters and see the planet Scott Reintgen created.

Under the Udala Trees by Chinelo Okparanta

I came across this book under Staff Picks on my library’s website. According to the summary on the back, it is a coming of age story “inspired by Nigeria’s folktales and war”, so I’m expecting it to be powerful, engaging, and satisfyingly literary.

The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware

After reading so many reviews of this book and being recommended Ruth Ware a plethora of times, I’m finally diving in. This book (the summary and the cover) has quite a spooky ambience so it feels right to be reading it this time of year, too.

Endless Night by Agatha Christie

I’m jumping back on the Agatha Christie train with this book, which is September’s pick for the #AYearWithChristie2019 readalong. Endless Night was one of Agatha Christie’s own personal favorite novels, so I have high hopes for my own impression of the story.

The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemisin

I had started reading this in June, but had to return it after a few renewals because there were many holds on it. In case you are not familiar with this book, it is the second in The Broken Earth trilogy; I read The Fifth Season back in May and savored every bit of it. Hopefully I won’t have to wait too long in the hold line. 🤞
