Thanks to a long weekend after ringing in the new year, my reading for 2025 is already off to a great start.
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness is the book I chose to kick off this year of reading. This is a reread for me, and over the course of the past few days, I’ve read 276 pages (about halfway through the book). I’m just as obsessed with the story as I was the first time I read this book (and series) back in 2016, and I’m excited to continue rereading the series.
One of the books I did spend a lot of time with in 2024 is The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. I read 541 pages (out of 1,252), which I am proud of. When picking this back up just yesterday, I debated with myself about starting from the beginning or just continuing on. My argument for the former is that it’s nice not to have any leftover “baggage” so to speak – “baggage” being half read books carried into a new year and into new reading challenges. And for the latter, well, this book is a slog. There is a lot going on even when there is hardly anything going on, and being high fantasy, there’s so many names, locations, societies, etc. to learn. For now, I’m starting over. But if I start getting sick of the rereading, I’ll switch back to where I previously left off.
Those are the updates for my long weekend of reading. I’ll be continuing to update my daily reading progress on The StoryGraph if you are interested in following me there!
