Books Read
- Persuasion by Jane Austen
- My first read of this novel was delightful—I’m still debating whether or not to watch the new film adaptation based on many of the opinions I’ve read/heard/seen…
- The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig
- Although I grew to dislike the modern day protagonist (there was a weird two-page scene where she made intolerant comments about gender identity), I loved the historical romance/spy plot all the way through to the end.
Books I Did Not Finish
- Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson
- I read half of Shadows of Self just yesterday; I’m really enjoying the continuation of the Mistborn series, and will likely finish this installment by the end of the week.
- Track of the Cat by Nevada Barr
- This mystery/crime novel takes place in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, and an animal has been accused of a crime that our protagonist believes was actually committed by a human(s). It’s great so far, I just didn’t get to finish it in July.

Miscellany
An unpredictable and shifting work schedule, finalizing celebratory details for my sister’s bridal shower and bachelorette weekend, and little sleep throughout the month of July made me very neglectful of my reading and blog. I’m afraid my schedule isn’t going to get much less busy over the next couple of months, but in the free time I have had, I’ve been reading and watching organizing/daily routine/decluttering articles and videos that have made me feel overall more motivated to take on the challenges of each day. I’m still feeling the effects of the unstructured year that was 2020, and am desperately trying to to regain some sort of stable footing in my every day life. For the first time in many, many months, I’ve drawn up a content calendar for August, and have a stack of library books to jump start next month’s reading. I only hope that the momentum I’m feeling now lasts longer than it has over the past year…
