I have high hopes for my first month of reading in 2023, which you’ll see reflected below. Let’s get into January’s Reading Preview.
Books On My Radar
From My Shelves (Physical + Electronic)
- The Murder of Roger Ackroyd: A Hercule Poirot Mystery by Agatha Christie
- This audiobook will be the soundtrack to my morning and afternoon commutes for at least the next week (I currently have 6 hours and 8 minutes of listening time left).
- The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
- Selected by my book club to start the year off.
- Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
- I may start collecting Brandon Sanderson novels, which could be a dangerous game to get into. Regardless, I have this in my possession and so far it has made for satisfying bedtime reading.
Library Books
- Dessert Can Save the World: Stories, Secrets, and Recipes for a Stubbornly Joyful Existence by Christina Tosi
- This is a book I started at the end of 2022, and I am hoping to finish soon. I may review it, but if not, I’ll include my thoughts in the January Wrap-Up at the end of the month.
- Mistborn: The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson
- If my library allows me to take out any more books (three including the one in the bullet point above this have been in my apartment for months at this point—I’m embarrassed and will be using the exterior dropbox to return them when I do), I will be checking this one out. It is a new release (November 2022) so I’m not sure if and when it will become available But I am very excited to read it.

- Dust Child by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai
- I’m excited to join Algonquin’s tour for this novel. I read and reviewed The Mountains Sing back in 2020, and jumped at the chance to read Dust Child when the tour announcement arrived in my inbox. My spot on the tour isn’t until March, but I have access to the ebook (via the publisher) so I’m going to try to get a head start on it this month.
Anticipated January Releases
I’m behind on getting my 23 Anticipated Fiction Releases of 2023 post out, but there are two January releases on that list so I’m still going to add them here.
- City Under One Roof by Iris Yamashita (January 10th)
- The Daughters of Izdihar by Hadeer Elsbai (January 10th)
Reading Challenges
If I participate in any reading challenges this month, it will be for the Classics Club Reading Challenge. Otherwise, my focus will be on the books I featured above.
