Inside and Out Book Tag

I have been catching up on posts from bloggers I follow, and just came across this book tag done by Nicki from the Secret Library Book Blog (if you know who created this book tag let me know so I can link them!). I didn’t do a book tag in August, so I’ll likely double up this month – we’ll see.

Anyway, let’s get into the Inside and Out Book Tag.

1. Inside flap/Back of the book summaries: Too much info? Or not enough?

I don’t think I’ve come across a book summary on the physical book that provided too much information – none are coming straight to mind, anyway. However, plenty of book summaries on the back of the book or on the inside flap don’t give enough information in the sense that they don’t paint a true picture of what the book is really about. So I’m going with not enough.

2. New book: What form do you want it in? Be honest: Audiobook, E-Book, Paperback, or Hard cover?

Generally, I prefer a physical copy. So that is step one…
I love that “new” is so ambiguous here, because it could mean newly published or new to me.  If I am strongly anticipating a new release, I will get the hardcover so I don’t have to wait for the paperback version. However, when I’m out buying books, unless it’s a special edition or only available in hardcover, I’ll always reach for paperbacks.

3. Scribble while you read? Do you like to write in your books, take notes, make comments, or do you keep your books clean clean clean?

Write, scribble, draw, circle, underline, etc. Pencil on the initial read, and if I love the book enough to reread it (and keep it on my shelves), I may go back in with a pen. Of course this only applies to books that I own – I’ll make notes in a notebook if I need to when reading library and/or borrowed books.

4. Does it matter to you whether the author is male or female when you’re deciding on a book? What if you’re unsure of the author’s gender?

When I’m deciding on a book, no, it doesn’t matter.

5.  Ever read ahead? or have you ever read the last page way before you got there? 

Oh definitely. Like with every bookish opinion, some of you may be shocked by this, but especially when I was younger I would almost always skip to the last chapter or page – I found it, and still sometimes find it, oddly exciting. And I’ll sometimes do this with books I don’t want to finish just to see how it ends, like this one.

6.  Organized bookshelves, or outrageous bookshelves?

My preference is organized bookshelves, and I try to organize mine at the beginning of each month (at least). But I sort of like how as the month(s) go on, and I take books off and put them back, how outrageous and messy they get. I like to call it the “lived in” look. My significant other calls it “these books are taking over our apartment.”

7.  Have you ever bought a book based on the cover (alone)?

Yes. The multiple editions of classic books or personally meaningful books I own don’t count – because I buy those based on the story as well as the cover. However, there are a couple of used bookstores nearby that I love (including one antiquarian bookstore), and whenever I go in I am 99% likely to buy a book based on its cover.

8. Take it outside to read, or stay in?

Living in the northeast United States, I am more likely to be inside reading because snowy, blizzardy winter takes up most of the year, but on beautiful, non-winter days I prefer to read outside.
