Down the TBR Hole #4

Down the TBR Hole is a blogging meme created by Lost in a Story. You can see my previous post here, and continue reading for my latest attempt at decreasing the number of books on my too-long TBR list.

This is how it works:

• Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
• Order by [ascending] date added.
• Take the first 5 books (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous)
• Read the synopses of the books
• Decide: keep it or should it go?

In July I kept all ten books. Let’s see how I fare this month…

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

You know, the debate I’m having with myself about whether to remove this book or not might indicate that I should remove it. But like usual, the small part that wants to keep it wins out.

Verdict: Keep

Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez

I don’t have much to say about why this is on my TBR, other than I [obviously] want to read it.

Verdict: Keep

Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison 

I’m told that this American classic cannot be passed by, so on my TBR it stays.

Verdict: Keep

A River Runs Through It and Other Stories by Norman Maclean

I likely added this particular edition because I figured if I enjoyed A River Runs Through It I might enjoy reading other things written by Norman Maclean. I have yet to discover the truth of this speculation, but I would still like to.

Verdict: Keep

Persuasion by Jane Austen

This is one of the last two (I think) Jane Austen novels I haven’t read. So…

Verdict: Keep

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

.I’ve been wary of starting this book because I love Kristin Hannah’s previous novels and I’m worried about being disappointed. This fear is likely silly, but it has manifested nonetheless. And no, I haven’t read The Great Alone yet either.

Verdict: Keep

Girl With a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier

The premise of this book still has my attention.

Verdict: Keep

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

Ditto.

Verdict: Keep

Atonement by Ian McEwan

I briefly described my reason for keeping Ian McEwan on my TBR in this post.

Verdict: Keep

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque

I wish I could remember what led me to add this book, because it’s not something I’m interested in reading now.

Verdict: Discard

And my TBR shrinks by one book – a very minor success but a success nonetheless! 😆
