I have developed the habit of checking out library books exclusively at the beginning of a new month, so in this post I’ll be sharing the titles I have brought home for July.

Nyxia by Scott Reintgen

As I said in my #20booksofsummer reading list blog post, this was one of the first ebooks I ever downloaded (a year or so ago now, from NetGalley I think). So why am I checking it out of the library? Because I can’t seem to stop myself from putting this [e]book down – I’ve started it so many times (and I want to read it). So I’m hoping that reading the physical copy will lead to a better experience. If someone happens to request it from the library this month, I will hopefully be far enough into it that returning the physical copy and switching back to the ebook won’t slow down my momentum, but that’s a hypothetical bridge I’ll cross if I get to it.

Beyond the Woods: Fairy Tales Retold edited by Paula Guran

I was needlessly browsing some titles that are available at my branch of the library and found this anthology. I’m quite interested in fairy tales and retellings so I figured I would give this a try.

After Alice by Gregory Maguire

No, I do not like the protagonist of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, but I’m hoping her friend (through whom this story is told) is less annoying than Alice. The reviews I’ve read are quite mixed when it comes to the quality of this book, but that only makes me want to read it more. If I enjoy it, I’m hoping it will get me in the mood for Ever Alice by H.J. Ramsay, which is also on my #20booksofsummer reading list.

Augustown by Kei Miller 

Fortunately I was able to renew this book because I just didn’t give it enough attention in June. I am enjoying it though, if you’re wondering.

The Stonewall Reader: Edited by The New York Public Library by New York Public Library, Edmund White (foreword)

My hold either ran out on this book or I lost it because of overdue fees (probably the latter – as much as I love the library, sometimes I can be just an awful patron). It’s currently sitting on the hold shelf for someone else, so later this month I’ll check its status again and will hopefully be able to read it in August.

The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemisin

Sadly this book was overdue and had a couple of holds on it, so I brought it back to the library. I’m going to try to find a copy to purchase because I already know it’s a series I want to add to my bookshelf. If I am able to buy it I’ll attempt to finish it this month.
