Tome Topple Readathon TBR (April 2019)

There’s Something About A Readathon

Between reading The Bird King and taking breaks to blog hop, I had a wonderful Friday night. During my perusal of blog posts, I came across this post from Pauliina (The Bookaholic Dreamer), in which she announced her TBR for the Tome Topple Readathon. I had heard of the Readathon across the booktube channels I watch, but have never participated. I typically do Reading Challenges of my own, and only low-key take part in Dewey’s Read-a-thon or the 24in48 Readathon, because those are more fitting for my life. But the idea of participating in this round of Tome Topple had been implanted – to participate or not to participate.

Based on the existence of this post, you know what I decided. It is now Saturday morning, and the freshness of a new day (plush the coffee I’m drinking) has given me the motivation to accept the Tome Topple Readathon challenge(s).

The Tome Topple Readathon was started by Thoughts on Tomes, and is co-hosted by a number of booktubers. You can watch this round’s announcement video and learn more about the Readathon here, but the very basic idea is to read a book or books over 500 pages long. This round is taking place from today, April 13th to April 26th. There are five challenges that participants can opt to take on, which are:

  1. Read an adult book
  2. Read a tome that has been on your TBR the longest
  3. Read a tome in a genre you don’t usually read
  4. Read a tome that is part of a series
  5. Read more than one tome

Fortunately these challenges can be combined, so for example, if you have two 500+ page books that fit all of these and you read them during the two weeks, you have succeeded. Even if you read one book that fits the first four challenges, you have succeeded. I plan on checking off all five with the following three books.

Tome Topple Readathon | April 2019 | There's Something About KM

  • The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson 556 pages
    • An adult book
    • Part of a series
  • The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty 609 pages
    • An adult book
    • Part of a series
  • Dune by Frank Herbert 794 pages
    • An adult book
    • Long-term resident on my TBR
    • Science Fiction is not a genre I often pick up
    • Part of a series

And if I read more than one of these the last challenge will be complete.

Are these the only books I’ll be reading over the next two weeks? No. I have [review and library due date] commitments that prevent me from reading just these three books. But if I’m able to finish one (or two!) and get a good start on the other(s), I will feel pretty accomplished.

Do you have any 500+ page books in your short-term reading future? Are you participating in the Tome Topple Readathon? Let me know in the comments, link to your TBR if you’d like (I would enjoy seeing what you plan to read), and follow me on Twitter and Instagram for updates (and everyday ramblings).
