Throwback Thursday: Instagram 2016

There’s Something About Instagram

Week two of my blogiversary month is nearly over, so it’s time for another Instagram throwback. You can read my 2015 reflection post from last week here, and continue reading below for a look at year 2016 on theressomethingabout_ 📚

January – December 2016

Unlike in 2015, I posted on Instagram throughout 2016. This was the year I purchased my domain, theressomethingaboutkm.com, and redesigned the entire look of my blog. I was pretty strict with my Reading Challenge (which I enjoyed) and did not hold back from posting multiple photos of the same book. I am quite surprised to see that I continued experimenting with editing my photos beyond adding a brighter filter or more saturation. There are also a couple of black and white photos which, like I said last week, makes me want to post more black and white photos.

This was an early foray into Instagram videos. I made that bookmark (and about four others like it) myself; they’re not great because I used thick paper, but the crafting of them was fun.

This photo stands out to me because of one book in particular: Grimm’s Complete Fairy Tales. These books were all part of a library book sale haul which led to the beginning of my Grimm’s Fairy Tales project

I no longer have this rickety bookshelf, but it was the first one in my then-new now-lived in apartment (I’ve since upgraded to these bookshelves). So this picture makes me a tad sentimental, even though it wasn’t quite my favorite piece of furniture.

I try to get outdoor photos with books whenever I can. The truth is, if I’m outdoors, I’m not likely reading – I’m hiking, walking, hanging out with family at camp, etc. But on the occasions when I spend the day at the beach or have camp [mostly] to myself, I’ll snap photos like there’s no tomorrow.

I discovered the #SockSunday and #SockSelfie hashtags in 2016, and had fun participating in both. I’ve enjoyed these photos since I first started posting them because they are cozy and usually simple to take – and are some of my most “hearted” photos.

My favorite photos from 2016 are the ones I took in the fall. This isn’t surprising, because fall is my favorite season and these photos have the warmest hues – because of throw blankets, pumpkins, and beverages. Is there one season in which you love taking #bookstagram photos more than the others?

And finally, I took part in #Top9 at the end of the year. I really wish I hadn’t put this photo in black and white, but oh well. The types of photos in this Top 9 are similar to the ones that still garner the most attention today: socks, open books, and simplicity. Luckily those happen to be my favorite to post.
