Halloween Creatures (2.0) Book Tag

Happy October, friends! Since everyone has the spooky and spectacular on their minds, I decided to follow suit and do a themed book tag this month. The Halloween Creatures 2.0 Book Tag was created by Anthony at Keep Reading Forward (he also created the original version), so please go check out his answers (and charming Halloween graphics) here, and keep reading for mine.

Fall Book Tag

Witch
A Magical Character or Book.

The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis.

Werewolf
The Perfect Book to Read at Night.

A short story anthology. If I read at night/in bed I usually fall asleep, so with short stories I at least feel like I get some good reading done. Plus, I don’t have to back track the next night.

Frankenstein
A Book that Truly Shocked You.

Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz. I’ve mentioned this book here before I think, but seriously, the ending took me by complete surprise.

The Devil
A Dark, Evil Character.

Because I love a good juxtaposition: Eli from the Villains series.

Grim Reaper
A Character that Should Never Have Died.

Sirius Black, of course.

Zombie
A Book that Made You “Hungry” for More.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. Since I read it, I’ve been obsessed with reading more retellings/adaptations of fairy tales and infamous stories.

Gargoyle
A Character that You Would Protect at All Cost.

Miss Marple. Her cleverness and sweet demeanor are irreplaceable.

Vampire
A Book that Sucked the Life Out of You.

I’m interpreting this as “not in a good way” to say Moby-Dick by Herman Melville.

Ghost
A Book that Still Haunts You.

After Dark by Haruki Murakami.

Demon
A Book that Really Scared You.

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote.

Skeleton
A Character You Have a Bone to Pick With.

At the time of this writing, I am in the middle of Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle, and the character Charles is really irritating/unnerving to me. Charles, buddy, leave those women and your uncle alone.

Mummy
A Book You Would Preserve Throughout Time.

People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks
(because it has taken me eternity to finish reading it and I’m assuming it’s going to take me an eternity longer to do so).

Creepy Doll
A Cover too Scary to Look At.

This edition of The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The Monster Mash
It’s Fun to Be with Friends on Halloween!
