From My Bookshelf: The Lord of the Rings

For this post, I’ve chosen to feature four (rather than my typical three) books From My Bookshelf. This is because I finally got the 2012 Mariner reissue edition of The Fellowship of the Ring. I’ve had this edition of The Two TowersThe Return of the King, and The Hobbit for a few months, but when I purchased them (thank you, Sherman’s Books and Stationery) the first book in this series wasn’t available. Thanks to Independent Bookstore Day (and more so Print: A Bookstore), I found this coveted copy and it now resides on my shelf.

I have never read the LOTR series, although I have seen a couple (?) of the movies. My movie-cover edition of The Fellowship of the Ring is partly read – but only about five or ten percent. Reading this series (this year) will certainly be more satisfying now that I have each installment, and especially now that I have them all in the same edition. There’s not much more to say about them, so I’ll show you the covers below.

The Hobbit | The Lord of the Rings | J.R.R. Tolkien

The Fellowship of the Ring | The Lord of the Rings | J.R.R. Tolkien

The Two Towers | The Lord of the Rings | J.R.R. Tolkien

The Return of the King | The Lord of the Rings | J.R.R. Tolkien

Oh, and in case you missed it, a new LOTR book is being published in August: The Fall of Gondolin (read Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s press release here). LOTR fans – what are your thoughts? Book series fans – what do you think about posthumous publishing of new installments?
