From My Bookshelf: The Lord of the Rings

For this post, I’ve chosen to feature four (rather than my typical three) books From My Bookshelf. This is because I finally got the 2012 Mariner reissue edition of The Fellowship of the Ring. I’ve had this edition of The Two TowersThe Return of the King, and The Hobbit for a few months, but when I purchased them (thank you, Sherman’s Books and Stationery) the first book in this series wasn’t available. Thanks to Independent Bookstore Day (and more so Print: A Bookstore), I found this coveted copy and it now resides on my shelf.

I have never read the LOTR series, although I have seen a couple (?) of the movies. My movie-cover edition of The Fellowship of the Ring is partly read – but only about five or ten percent. Reading this series (this year) will certainly be more satisfying now that I have each installment, and especially now that I have them all in the same edition. There’s not much more to say about them, so I’ll show you the covers below.

The Hobbit | The Lord of the Rings | J.R.R. Tolkien

The Fellowship of the Ring | The Lord of the Rings | J.R.R. Tolkien

The Two Towers | The Lord of the Rings | J.R.R. Tolkien

The Return of the King | The Lord of the Rings | J.R.R. Tolkien

Oh, and in case you missed it, a new LOTR book is being published in August: The Fall of Gondolin (read Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s press release here). LOTR fans – what are your thoughts? Book series fans – what do you think about posthumous publishing of new installments?

I’m never convinced about posthumous publications unless they were nearly complete when the author died. I’ll wait and see the reviews of the new one before I jump in. Enjoy your read – I love the movies, but the books are even better! 😀

If I finish the series before then I think I’ll dip my toes into the new one. I think I’m feeling okay about it in this case because it’s being produced by family, but what do I know. Haha!
