#AtoZChallenge: Goodreads

I haven’t given a reading challenge update in a while, and since we’ve reached the seventh letter in my alphabetical #AtoZChallenge, G is for Goodreads.

While I do have an ongoing Reading Challenge here on my blog, Goodreads is much better about holding me accountable (than I am) for my progress. Last year, I was part of a Goodreads group in which the members pledged to read 100 books over 365 days, and if I’m remembering correctly, I fell quite short of that number. So this year I got more real with myself and set a goal of 52 books. For my personal reading pace, one book a week is incredibly doable, which you may not believe if you look at my progress, but it is.

Now that the weather is getting nicer and I’m wanting to spend more time outside, I’ll be able to clear my mind of the distractions inside my apartment much easier, and be able to finish the books I’ve started and will start at a quicker pace. I know for some people reading challenges aren’t useful and putting a number on the amount of books to be read takes the fun out of reading, but I think if you focus on selecting books and authors you want to read more than the logistics of your challenge, reaching that numerical goal will come faster than expected. I create reading challenges because when I do, I find myself going to the library more and visiting bookstores more often to satisfy my need to read!

And with that cheesy rhyme, it’s time to wrap this up. I’ll admit that I’ve neglected the Reading Challenge here on my blog in the past month or two, so my goal for the rest of May is get it filled out and focus on reading the titles I choose. As for my Goodreads challenge, I’m not worried. I actually believe I’ll exceed 52 books this year, although I don’t believe I can make it to 100. Who knows though, maybe I’ll kick my reading pace up a notch and read 2 books a day for the next 228 days!

Do you have any specific reading goals this year, or a reading challenge of your own? Share them in the comments below, and drop a link to your Goodreads profile (and/or blog) so I can follow along [and compare my progress with yours]. Happy reading!
