RC2015 – December Intro

Happy December 1st! I’ve said it a thousand times, but I’ll say it again: I cannot believe another month has passed. This new one is bigger than the rest of course, because it’s the last of 2015. Yikes.

I hope you got the chance to read my November Reading Challenge Wrap-Up, and if you didn’t that’s okay, it’s not a prerequisite to December’s. I am scaling back to one book this month, because I’m anticipating heavier subject matter that I want to take more time to get through, and with the holidays in full force I will be busier than usual. For this month, I am reading Ta-Nehisi Coates’s Between the World and Me. It just won the National Book Award for Nonfiction and is a New York Times Bestseller, and has garnered large amounts of praise. I watched Ta-Nehisi Coates in interviews on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and Late Night with Seth Meyersand admired his candid, friendly persona that did not overstep his discussion of the issues affecting him, his son (to whom the book is written as a letter), and the very fibers of American society. I would say if there was a time most appropriate for this book to be published it is now, but honestly, and sadly, the time has been always; to me it’s just more apparent now.

If you have already read Between the World and Me, please feel free to share your thoughts. And if you decide to read it along with me, let’s strap in right now and get started. Check back in at the end of the month for my reactions, thoughts, and reflections. As always, you can find the book on my Goodreads profile, if you’re interested.
